Employer accreditation and Job Check, done properly
To hire overseas staff on the Accredited Employer Work Visa, your business first needs accreditation, and each role needs a Job Check. Jason prepares the applications, reviews your recruitment process and responds to INZ when it asks for more.
Who this is for
- Businesses hiring overseas staff for the first time
- Employers whose accreditation is due for renewal
- Employers who received an RFI or decline on a Job Check
- Businesses wanting a check on their obligations as an accredited employer
Key requirements
- Your business operates genuinely and is financially sound
- No serious breaches of employment or immigration law
- You provide settlement support and information to migrant staff
- Each role is paid at market rate and advertised to New Zealanders as required
- The role is genuine and the job description matches the real work
This is a general summary. See the INZ website ↗ for current requirements.
How it works
Assess your business
We look at your operation, hiring plans and history, and settle the right accreditation type and timing.
Apply for accreditation
Company, financial and compliance documents are prepared and lodged.
Job Check for each role
Job description, advertising evidence and pay rationale are prepared for each role.
Staff apply for the AEWV
Once the Job Check is approved, your candidate applies with the Job Token.
Stay compliant
Reminders of your obligations during accreditation and when renewal is due.
Practical notes from Jason
- Write the job description from the real duties. Generic templates are a common reason for RFIs
- Keep screenshots and dates of every job advertisement
- Be ready to explain the pay rate against the market for similar roles
- Accreditation does not guarantee a Job Check. Each role is assessed on its own
Questions
Can a small business be accredited?
Yes. INZ looks at whether the business is genuine and compliant, not its size. Small businesses need their financial and trading records in good order.
Can accreditation and Job Check be lodged together?
Accreditation usually comes first, and Job Checks follow. We plan the order around your hiring timeline and INZ's current process.
Can I hire someone who is still overseas?
Yes. After the Job Check is approved, the candidate can apply for the AEWV from outside New Zealand.
